  • Born of the Japanese traditional painting style and Japan's flattened social hierarchy.Takashi Murakami coined the artistic style of "Superflat" in his own writings; at the same time, the term is often used to refer to his own artwork.
  • While its concept is characterized by its two-dimensionality, it also blurs the boundary between high art and low art and provides a critical perspective on the structure of art itself.

Introduction

Born in Tokyo in 1962, Takashi Murakami is one of the most influential artists to come out of Japan in recent decades. © Murakami is the most comprehensive retrospective of the artist's work to date. It features more than 90 artworks in various media including painting, sculpture, installation, and film that track the ongoing evolution of Murakami's anime alter ego DOB, otaku-inspired figure projects of the late ‘90s, and an archive of licensed Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd. merchandise that span Murakami's entire career.
