The International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao (ZINEBI) will open at the Arriaga Theater of Bilbao on November 16th with a screening of the Basque short films in competition within the Official Section and a tribute to the filmmaker Carlos Saura, who will receive one of the festivals Mikeldis of Honor. The second Mikeldi of Honor in this yearl´s 2012 edition will be presented at the closing session, on November 23rd, to the versatile French director Patrice Chéreau, in recognition of the diversity and consistency of his work.
A total of 72 films will participate in the Official Selection, opting to the Gold and Silver Mikeldis for the three competing genres: fiction, documentary and animation. Among the films selected for the competition, it´s included 18 Spanish productions, of which 8 from Basque filmmakers, to be screened at the opening ceremony and they are: The Perfectionists by Tucker Davila Wood (fiction), Aner Unai Garate (fiction); Voice Over by Martin Rosete (fiction), Je me souviens by Gentzane Martinez de Osaba (documentary);Berriro igo nauzu by Carlos Rodriguez (documentary), "Under the pillow, Isabel Herguera (animation); Beerburg by Ander Mendia (animation) and Guernica by Angel Sandimas (animation).
The prize list of ZINEBI, which will be released on November 23rd, is composed with the Grand Prix of the Festival of Bilbao, the Grand Prix of the Basque cinema, the Grand Prix of the Spanish cinema, the Grand Prix of the Latin American cinema and the Gold and Silver Mikeldi in the categories of fiction, animation and documentary. The festival also has three unofficial awards: The EITB Audience Award, The SGAE Award and the Basque Writers Association´s Award for the Best Screenplay in Basque and the Club FAS Cinema Award.
