The eighth edition of the Getxophoto festival is once again coming to Euskadi from August 28 to September 28. This street photography event, driven by the Begihandi collective, is hedging its bets on exploring different exhibition spaces, mainly public spaces, such as containers, bars, patios, shop windows, or buildings.
These photographs are tools for knowledge, communication, and aesthetic enjoyment. Not only do they adorn the city, but they also participate therein to tell stories. The theme for this year revolves around fighting for the freedom and dignity of people. Within this year’s program, which brings together 18 artists from different countries, the festival director highlights three impacting proposals: Yemeni photographer Boushra Almutawakel’s regarding women and the religious pressure in Yemen; Vietnamese photographer Maika Elan’s, which addresses the homosexual community in her country, and French photographer Raphäel Dallaporta’s, which deals with anti-personnel mines.
